Darn you early readers.

I suppose you also got the scary little slip that was different from everyone else's when the reading tests came in and it said that you read above college level?

Got it in 6th grade and was like "wtf is this?" and she was like "It means you read above college level" and I was all like "*Fistpump*"

Yeah, I was supposed to be in the gifted program in 2nd grade, but I got one point less than the accepted lowest score on the test. I passed it the 2nd time and was in the program from 3-6th grade (6th grade is the last year in the gifted program in Florida.)

Gifted was the best thing ever. I didn't learn anything (they weren't trying to "teach" us, they were trying to nurture our creativity or some shit), but I sure had a ton of fun!

I remember getting pulled out of class once and having some reading test administered to me in third grade. I was later told that I read at a 'post-graduate' level, despite the fact that I did not know how to pronounce 'yacht'. That made me feel good. Also in third grade I read Stranger in a Strange Land for the first time.

As for all y'all with your 'gifted' stuff, my school didn't have anything like that because I went to a school intended to break us of our 'unfortunate behavioural tendencies'.

3rd grade I swear all we did was play chess and play with legos.
4th grade we played the Stock Market Game and watched fun videos (and did other stuff too, but I don't remember what).
5th grade wasn't as fun, because there was actual learning and it was a 4th/5th grade class.
6th grade was bleh. I didn't really like either of my teachers, and I didn't do too amazingly in pre-algebra.

Edit: I read 32 of these books in 1st grade (meaning 36 weeks), which is probably what caught the attention of my teacher. The highest grade level they could assign to our reading was 12, so that's what they said I read at.

Ha! must be nice to get rewarded for being smart. When I was in grade school and reading way above my level ( I remember blowing through the reading assignment for the month in about 10 mins and then pulling out a David Eddings book and reading that instead ) I was told I had ADD and they put me on Ritalin. But then again in the mid 80's they was giving EVERYONE Ritalin.

You mean like homosexuality, or just the regular run-of-the-mill-oppressive-institutions-that-don't-like-freedom-or-hyphens?

Did anyone else think David Edding's had a hard on for wolves?
David Eddings wrote:Wolves are basically the best creature. They are strong and noble and not fooled, but also have jokes and their own language. I want to do wolves up the bum etc.

Definitely. Also Piers Anthony is a pedophile, but I still like their books.

I'm just saying that it's distracting that halfway through a story suddenly we go off on a tangent about how fucking awesome wolves are.

Also one of the main characters, belgarath, knocked up a wolf and had bastard human babies with it. Yeah I definitely think he is someone who would run around in the wilderness with no pants hoping to get raped by a wolf.

Maybe that's where he is now, in the Alaskan wilderness searching for his "Poledra"
