And everyday I am thankful for the family I have. 2 of my aunts are religious (one is non denominational Christian, the other is a Mormon), one is an ex Muslim and all my aunts are cool.

I have met a few people this way about Harry Potter.

The works of Harry Potter and then the works of Lovecraft are not in the same league. I think at times, people just pick at things to find reasons not to like it.

My aunty hired Rocky Horror Picture Show for me to watch when I was about three. I think it offends all religions, so I'm pretty sure none of my family cares about stuff like that.

I have heard people say that about the HP series as well as other books. Many times, they are going by the fact that it has ideals which are not from their religion so it frightens them.

Well I'm just glad my parents aren't that way. Although whenever us kids were watching a movie with Dad and a sex scene came on he would fast forward it. I don't know why he bothered, because in most cases it just made it appear worse...

Wow. My parents taught us this trick called the 'Mush Alert' so whenever people kissed in movies (i.e. made out), we'd cover our eyes and cry out "Mush Alert! Mush Alert!". Looking back on it now, I realise that meant the folks still got to watch the make out scenes and we where none-the-wiser. I probably would have sat through a porno with my eyes covered and ears blocked if I was told it was kissing. Maybe I did? Who knows.

I only remember getting a warning like that once, for Under Siege (of all things). Most of the time we just sailed right through. I still find it extremely uncomfortable.

I have a strange way of expressing when I'm uncomfortable. For example, if the movie goes into a full hard core sex scene and I, for some strange reason, feel uncomfortable watching it in the company of others, I'll shout out 'Boh Yah! Look at them go!' or something else of equal quality. Mostly though I don't care now days. I get no more uncomfortable for the sex than I do the murders etc.

Oh, violence doesn't bother me in the least. That's my generation for ya.

No one cared what a I watched. If i watched something and had nightmares about it, i would not watch it again. I watched the remake of night of the lving dead in 1989 and could not watch another zombie movie until i played the resident evil games in 1997. After killing them, i knew they could not get me again.


Lets talk lovecraft for a second. Since you cant talk about him without thinking of quake, i got an idea. I was going to make a new map with pictures of stuff from his storys. You all can have a copy once i am done.

I would talk Lovecraft if I had any idea who they where. As it is I just want to be part of the conversation so I direct it to things I know stuff about... like parental warnings.

Well I know who he was, but I still haven't yet read any of his stuff so you're not too far behind. This may help, eh?

Could always look up Cthulhu or Lovecraft and get all you need. Especially since he is a big influence on horror and many role playing gamers are big fans of his.

Man, I can think of several other videogames instead of Quake when talking about Lovecraft. Like Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth or Shadow of the Comet (which is floating around my Dad's place somewhere (seriously, it's getting kind of creepy how it just hovers there)) or even the Alone in the Dark series. I'm just saying, Quake is basically the last game I think of when I think Lovecraft.

Eternal Darkness comes up pretty quickly. Then Alone in the Dark. Then Quake, but only because I'm thinking about Quake pretty much all of the time.
