Elaborate.
It's three and a half months away.
That said, we did start getting in Christmas trees at my Wal-Mart this week.

hahaa... wal-mart is funny. Mostly cuz our county doesn't allow any of them to be built (which i'm sure makes them furious not having access to 5 million people). There is one in the north end that was built before the ban, but still.

Well, my step-mom switched into this mode of giving memories rather than stuff. The idea being that pretty much everyone in the US with a job already has more stuff than they know what to do with and none of it really makes us happy. So she gives us tickets to the symphony, theater, concerts, that sort of thing. As a practice I'd recommend it to anyone in the first world*.

That is a great idea. I really like it. Alas, I am from Canadia, so I suppose it wouldn't fly.
Lately most of the stuff I ask for are DVDs and CDs of which I would like to own but can't come up with the scratch to purchase. Actually most of the music I have asked for in the last 4 years or so has been stuff I have illegally on my computer but want to own and support the artists. Mainly because thats the kind of stuff my parents need a list for, the other stuff is more obvious.

Many years ago, when I was about 12, my dad woke me up at about 1 am screaming at me:

"It's fucking September! Get out there and take down the Christmas decorations for god sakes!"

It was raining.

Wait... was it actually Christmas?
If so, your dad has a poor sense of humour, but at least it's is a marginally funny story.
If not I have concern for your family, with the decorations being up for 9 months, and your dad being clearly prone to late night drunken rants.
