The Raid - fucking awesome; the fighting was all very beautiful, and the film itself was gripping and unrelenting
The Ghost Writer - it was weird and oddly satisfying to see a modern-day Polanski film (the latest I'd seen was The Tenant, made in 1976), but overall pretty disappointing

With me it's always safe to assume the latter. There is another movie coming out in 2012 called Timecrimes (probably an American remake). But I assure you I was clueless.


Other news:
Cowboys and Aliens: Some really bad lines, lots of action, lots of people dying to save a few. All in all it was okay, but I wouldn't bother watching it a second time.
Conan the Barbarian: Really stupid sex scene in the middle, far far far too much blood / gore (if they had cut down on this they might have had an audience to actually watch the movie i.e. young boys), it would have been fine without half the blood and then it would have been a fun action adventure movie the likes of most Jerry Bruckheimer's productions. Eye candy? 100% worth watching. Man in a skirt, why you so sexy?
Fright Night: Despite being a remake it felt very 80's. David Tenant was fun to watch as he swore his nut off. Vampires looked creepy, no lovey dovey shit with the vampires so they were actually monsters (this is a point of contention for many people I'm aware). Enjoyable at 4am in the morning when I was highly sleep deprived. Also Colin Farrell was hot.*

*I must notice this more when I'm tired, I have not watched so many movies and thought so many people where hot in such a long time.

The Exterminating Angel - fascinating, but more the ideas than their execution
Animal Kingdom - meh; the characters were quite good, but otherwise undeservedly acclaimed
Singin' in the Rain (rerewatch) - absolutely wonderful
Rififi - amazingly taut
