Actual worst comic ever.
Seriously, it's like a parody of SMBC.

That makes a lot more sense than my theory, which was that he meant to say Sumos.nobody wrote:I believe you meant the following: "There are a lot of pseudo-intellectuals posting under nom-de-plumes on this online ideas-exchange facility."e wrote:so many pseudos here,,,
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

Maybe that is what he was going for, implying that we are all fatties with good strength and stamina.

Since when is chemistry not a science?

First time posting.... and realizing that there was a forum for SMBC.
?Anyhow, I believe automatic toilets exist not as an attempt to save time but for sanitary reasons... Given the option to flush in a public restroom, too many people are too lazy to turn around and take the extra second or two to flush away their filth. Automatic toilets, however irrating they might be by ALWAYS flushing before one is finished, solve this problem. In large institutions, such as the college where I work, I assume this saves the custodial staff some time as well. In the older buildings on campus where the restrooms still have manual flushing toilets, the custodians have actually posted signs on the inside of the stall doors reminding folks to flush. People are gross.
Also, every auto-toilet I have ever seen (I live in the US) has always had a manual flush button as well. It is usually very discreet, so I can see how one might miss it, but it's there.

Actually, it's to limit the amount of water you use.

I really like the water-saving toilets that have the sink on top of the cistern, so that when you wash your hands you are actually refilling the toilet with water at the same time.
I think that works better than auto-flush toilets, really.

Yeah but is that really hygienic? I mean my hands are filthy

Hey man, sometimes you just gotta accept some hand dirt in your flushed poo.
It's a sacrifice you make for the environment.

I fail to see how an automatic toilet limits the amount of water you use. It uses the same amount of water to flush as a manual toilet, plus if the sensor is located too high on the toilet, slight movements, such as turning you body to reach for toilet paper, often causes the toilet to flush prematurely. Since it will inevitably flush again when you exit the stall, this seems like it would actually use more water...
I can see how this make sense for automatic faucets in sinks, as one can't forget to tun off the faucet and leave the water running, that definitely save water. But water conservation doesn't make sense for the automatic toilet. Also, as I stated above, the auto-toilets can all be flushed manually at any point as well, so one could flush them as many times as his or heart desires, (or how ever much their butt requires. Which ever comes first.) Yeah. I'm calling shenanigans on that idea. It really makes more sense to have auto-toilets to simply make sure that they are flushed, as not only does this keeps facilities more sanitary, but would also help keep the toilets from clogging and or over flowing. Anyone who's ever had a #2 emergency and gone to the nearest restroom to find a toilet that some left all their crap in (literally, not figuratively.... though I would like to find the latter... someone's personal affects floating around in the toilet... watch, family pictures, loose change. heh --- like in some old rpgs. Why can I search the toilet? and why is there stuff in it?) will most likely flush before sitting down. Otherwise, if you do your business on top of the existing... business, the toilet might stop up and over flow and well, yeah. gross. Having seen that happen first hand, I've never walked into a restroom with auto-toilets and had evidence of the previous occupant floating around to say "hello! come to bring me some friends, eh? Marvelous!"

I don't think anyone suggested they save water. I'm pretty sure the intention is to keep the bathroom sanitary and not gross.Shakes wrote:I fail to see how an automatic toilet limits the amount of water you use. This isn't something I made up: an automatic faucet/toilet is supposed to use less water, since you spend less time turning the faucet on and off, and you can't just leave the faucet running. Whether or not it actually reduces water consumption in a practical setting remains to be seen, but that's definitely part of the motivation.DonRetrasado wrote:Actually, it's to limit the amount of water you use.

I can definitely see how the auto-sinks would use less water. Just not sure about the auto-terlets.DonRetrasado wrote:This isn't something I made up: an automatic faucet/toilet is supposed to use less water, since you spend less time turning the faucet on and off, and you can't just leave the faucet running.
