Add more sections to the forum

Post by RaxoZellet »

More sections so more conversations can be held.

-General -general topics of discussion, news, etc

-Media - Tv, Movies, Games etc

-Smbc - talk about his comic

-Suggestions - an area where people can make suggestions

- Random tomfoolery - a place where people can post stupid stuff when they're bored

That could be a basic format to make this place livelier.

hmm... Not sure we need all these things (like I fail to see how media and random don't fall under the "general" umbrella, and suggestions couldn't be posted in the "smbc" topic), but one of the noobs recently made a point to me that it could be nice to have a Video Games section. That way we can put all the TF2, quake stuff in one place...

I feel different section are needed because with just two its a muddled mess of threads. With different sections things can be organized better and more discussions can pop up based on the section. Also if different sections will be more user friendly.

Yea random would be general but media wouldn't because general would also be real news or interesting things found surfing the web or some forum users creation he or she wants to show off.

Media would be discussion of games, movies, and tv in its own section.

I sent an email to Zach about this last night. He said he would look into reorganizing the forum this weekend

I'm just trying to help. I want to see this forum become more active and it has the potential to do so.

I really don't see the need for a suggestions forum, although I always do LOVE suggestions forums :p

And the reason people waltz in and act like they've been here a while is they have, they're actually just the regulars, in new accounts, trying to make Zach feel better.

I'm with TwoBuy on this one, Suggestions is a nice idea, but would be better handled as a sticky in the SMBC forum, rather than making unnecessary dead weight.

When there are too many forums I find people tend to stick to the forums they like rather than checking out everything involved. I doubt this forum will become big enough for that to happen any time soon, but when you've got a few specialised forums, rather than a million ultra specialised forums, people tend to mingle more. Plus, even with the recently added active members, we don't really have enough people to warrant too many more forums.

I think all that's really needed is an entertainment section (video games/media/etc)

As for people waltzing in and acting like they've been here for a while, good on em! At least most of them sound like they know a thing or two about stuff. The usual riffraff is pleasantly absent so far.
Not a big fan of signatures.

I'm kinda with you... waltzing in and making suggestions is fine, but sweet monkey jesus, did so many of you all have to show up? I'm having to check the forum every frickin' hour just to keep up with the posts. Maybe we should do some ice breakers or sing songs around a campfire or something

Yeah it is getting pretty quick, 'round here.
I'm gone for the weekend, and there ain't no way I'm doing more than browsing most of this.
Also, lets not get carried away with endless sections and forums. It may be the way it is sometimes done elsewhere, but I'm not entirely convinced you all will still be here in the future, and this forum has had other sections in the past, and they collapsed into another over time.
Ultimately I'm for it, I just don't particularly want Zach making sections for everything from the changing cost of rice due to Chinese market inflation to the tender art of nose-picking.

*waltzes in to make a suggestion*

Explosm.net has a pretty massive forum which I used to be part of, and one of their main highlights was the 'muck-up' section where the usual code of conduct was loosened somewhta. People could mess around without really contributing to any of the topics. But then again that goes for the whole forum here.

And who said ballroom dancing was dead?
