[2012-Sep-19] Lawyers Versus Genies
Look, this isn't that complicated.
Bertrand Russell has you covered.
Never mind lawyers, the genies should have consulted a mathematician-- all you need is a type system. SImply only accept wishes phrased within a constrained grammar which prevents self-referential statements by requiring for example only 2-sets can contain 1-sets. Then specify the genie will grant any first-order wish.
There, was that so hard?
I TRIED TO POST THIS LIKE LAST FRICKIN NIGHT BUT YOUR MYSQL SERVER SUCKS

If I could have a fictional job, I would like to be a wish consultant.Arandur wrote:Relatively sure I haven't posted.

Suprisingly XKCD has done it better http://xkcd.com/1086/

So that teapot in outer space actually has a genie inside. Now it all makes sense!
Re: [2012-September-19] Lawyers Versus Genies
I don't see why it's surprising; xkcd is not on an every-day schedule and so he can actually think of good ideas instead of having to pump something out every day.Jewlian wrote:Suprisingly XKCD has done it better http://xkcd.com/1086/
Hell, even at that rate it's not great;
Cyanide and Happiness has plenty terrible comics and those guys alternate so they do like 1 every 3 days-ish

xkcd has terrible comics too. I would wager that every comic that has produced a substantial amount of material has some absolute crap. I've yet to find anyone who is perfect at their job, I don't know why people keep expecting entertainers to be.

I have a startup that I started with my friends some time ago. Now we have disagreements, and I have no idea how to solve them. Can you advise a good lawyer?
Re: [2012-Sep-19] Lawyers Versus Genies
Do you have an agreement or at least some documents that determine the rights and obligations and each of the partners? It is very dangerous to start work when this is not documented in any way. I advise you to check the site https://make-forms.com/joint-venture-agreement-template. If I need information about certain documents, their preparation or templates, I'm looking for it there.
Re: [2012-Sep-19] Lawyers Versus Genies
But genies aren't real, right? I mean yes http://taylorlegalnc.com/ made some references to the genies but it wasn't literal. So there can't possibly be a lawyers vs genies.
