[2-21-14] Set from Quantum Leap?

Post by blaine »

I can't seem to locate the episode, but I have to say that the first panel of this strip reminds me of the set from an episode of Quantum Leap wherein Sam has to deliver a baby (and no, Google, I don't mean he delivers a baby himself, as the woman. Gah). In the episode, he's on, I think, a military base, and ends up "inventing" some method of getting the woman slightly drunk for delivery, which was apparently common in the future but not yet known at the time of his leap. But I understand zero things about how babies work, and that includes the methodologies of extraction from the host, so forgive me if I've gotten some of the details wrong in that description.

So the subject matter was similar too, and it makes me wonder if the similarity in appearance of setting is not a coincidence...

He got her drunk (I think put alcohol in her iv or some other delivery method) to postpone delivery. It sort of stopped labour. I believe this is medically sound, but wouldn't like to practice it myself.

As for the comic... I suppose I'd have to read it to have anything to say about it.

Genesis Part II:

I googled, "quantum leap using alcohol to postpone labor" and it was the first result. I did not look for it on youtube.

Here is a paper on the actual practice. I only read the abstract because I don't really care, but the abstract indicates it is ineffective at delaying labor and generally a bad idea. To find the paper, I took 'quantum leap' out of my search term and it was the second result.

Wow, you guys are awesome. Thanks for the useful info. I'm going to flip through that episode when I get home, to see if I can find a shot that would seem to verify my theory. Because, of course, I have that entire series on DVD, despite not knowing it well enough to pinpoint an episode or even accurately remember the events therein.

I've seen the episode (maybe) twice. One when it first aired and once some other time when tv played it as a rerun. I guess I win points for memory.

Not sure if I ever saw that episode since it was the second one. I only watched Quantum Leap when it was originally on TV but probably didn't see every episode. I did watch syndicated episodes while new ones were still airing, but I didn't watch the show at all after the final episode aired. It was 1989 when it aired in the US, so I wouldn't really remember it anyway.
