Watchmen

Post by Frostbite »

I was thinking of picking this up and reading it before the movie comes out. Has anyone read it or anything of the such? If so, is it good?

It is awesome. Though going from past experience with Alan Moore comic to movie adaptions.. if you Want to enjoy the movie, read the comic after you've seen it. Else wise you might try and pick a fight with a biker after the film to make the pain end.

The art in the comic isn't that great, the writing is. If your a snob for comic art it might be hard to read through, but it is very worth it to my mind.

There's a reason its the only comic to have won a Hugo, and is in many book groups throughout the lands.

I ended up really liking it. Give it some time if you pick it up. I'm not used to graphic novels, and it does start kind of slow, but I'm very glad I pushed through.

it was freaking amazing i thought. it's almost better the second time when you go through the panels and realize just how obvious the 'mystery' was, but it was so gripping that you didn't ever sit back and try to solve it. also, i have a digital version of it. if somebody wants it, just pm me.

So, I finished this the other night. Picked it up at Target about a week or so ago. I gotta say, pretty amazing. Rorschach was by far the best character. Some of my favorite parts where the exchanges between him and psychoanalyst in the prison.

I was just forced to read that and boy was I glad I was. Crazy ending usually the mad scientist turns into a pile of kittens.

Fixed up that nasty spoiler, although I'm not sure you can further spoil something that's been sitting out for over twenty years.

There are enough mad scientists in that book that it hardly counts as a spoiler.
I thought it was a good book, but I don't know if I'd use all the superlatives that everyone else seems to. Then again, I've never read any other graphic novels, so I don't actually have any basis for comparison. The ending really upset me, though. Without wanting to spoil things further, I think a lot of the characters just went along with a lot of things that there was no reason for them to. Stretched credibility too far.
Rorschach was incredible, though. I want to be Rorschach.
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

How come Zach is using the forums again? This, Ahmet, is what you call a sure sign of the apocalypse.

Because according to Zach, "I'd really like to develop more of a community there." Obviously he can't develop a community if he doesn't participate.
