Isn't that what they've done with Diamond Shreddies?
Diamond shreddies have always confused me.

I take care of a 7 year old boy who had a box and I pointed out that diamond Shreddies were just square ones tilted and I totally blew his mind.

I really don't know how to feel about them. On one hand I think it is funny. On the other hand, it feels a little too "Emporers New Clothes."*
I'd be more supportive if it didn't create a very large spike in their sales (the most in over a decade, since Eddie and Freddie stopped being used).
For the smart among us, I'm fine with it. The fact that there are enough people out there that won't necessarily pick up on it makes it a little distasteful to me.
But either way, it is a brilliant advertising campaign. I enjoyed reading the Macleans article on the topic.

*After writing this I noticed the Macleans article used the same comparison. Huzzah!

Thanks for the article link. I am going to read this later when I have time.

In my seven year olds defence, he was seven. Which I believe is around the age group the marketing campaign is directed at actually now that I think about it.

Really the whole thing doesn't bother me at all, I'm just amazed that they're actually doing it.

I don't think they are. They actually got rid of Freddie and Eddie because they wanted to focus on an adult market. And the campaigns for this aren't really geared specifically for kids at all.
And yeah, kids not knowing is obviously excusable.

I would've liked to see the judge's reaction on that one. That was pretty much the most original thing* I've heard come from any Idol affiliate.

*I understand the irony of that statement. I know it is a cover, but that is what Idol is primarily about, isn't it?

Yeah, it was all glowing reviews. They told him it was a huge risk, it payed off tremendously, and that was the most original take on a song they've ever heard. He deserved to win more than the other girl, but she had a better chance at mainstream appeal.

And oh dear Jesus there is no one on right now that is even remotely original. All their stupid little scene/rock/glam outfits are starting to run together, as are their voices.

The Australian version about a season ago I think was somehow infested with preachy Christian singers who came from a fundamental Christian youth group called Hillsong. After hearing this on the news, I sat down to watch an episode with my sister who is a pathetically massive fan of the show, and they were asked to perform renditions of classic rock songs. Their performance aspects were all terrible, they just acted like choir boys and girls whose worst act was to secretly skip Church one Sunday to go fishing, and were completely unconvincing in their barely registerable attempt to be like lead singers of rock bands*. The music was also quite expectedly purely bland pop remakes, nothing great at all. Even the judges were criticising their performances. I continued to stop watching about the show after those 20 minutes, and haven't seen an episode since.

*By my understanding of the rock-start persona, Hitler would have been a GOD of metal had he chosen to stay with the arts.

Over here we have the X Factor which to me demonstrates several things wrong with British society.
X Factor is a carbon copy of Pop Idol which is version that the Americans remade into American Idol. Are they similar?

There is also "America's Got Talent" which is enjoyable if only for the freaks it produces and "So You Think You Can Dance" which is basically American Idol but with dancing. Also it has a tendency to be consistently awesome.

That being said, I think I'm done watching* American Idol.
