Is it cos they sell bullets? I still find it hard to believe a shopping centre would/could do that.Asherian wrote:I refuse to shop at walmart on moral and ethical grounds. I will not support a company that I personally find so utterly repugnant.

Re: Whiskey is like a sweater on the inside
I'd imagine because their business ethics are suspect.
Basically because they want to sell for the "lowest price" they treat their vendors like crap and only buy for a pittance. And since the vendors have to sell so cheap, they are forced to outsource their manufacturing to developping countries (so, in turn, off the backs of the poor). They ultimately then take no responsibility and pass the buck with basically everything, and take the few good things and take credit.
Examples of that? Walmart Canadia advertises the Canadian companies that they purchase from, to shed the foreign company idea. The problem being that, as I said, these companies are outsourcing, and thus the company might only have a dozen Canadian employees at all. They also claim that they are supporting green initiatives. They are doing some things, but they also are claiming in supporting it among workers, which is spurious at best.
Oh, and then there is their "charitable" giving, which is a complete joke. They encourage customers to buy these little bookmarks or some shit, take their money, accumulate it, and say, "Hey, everybody look! We're giving $50,000 to this charity! Aren't we great!" When every dime (sometimes they match the donations) is ultimately given by the public, but Walmart is the one who gets to write it up at tax season. Please, people, don't buy those things. That dollar would be better spent nearly anywhere else. Even if it goes toward buying a homeless guy heroin.
Of course, this is not counting the fact that it kills local business and even, ultimately, culture. And everything else I haven't mentioned.
Oh, yeah, and I work there, if you didn't know (So I'm even restraining myself from the way they treat their employees and generally manage their business).

There's also great facts about them like how they've single handedly lowered the working conditions in both India and China with their factory practices in those countries. Or that they've had as many as 5 different states perusing cases against them for breaking minimum wage laws. How about the fact they'll important illegal immigrants to clean in their stores over night? Locking them in with no one who speaks english, say if a fire happens. Not to mention the fact that they Get Tax Write offs to build in a town, then once their deal they made to move in expires(or about a month before) they move out of the towns district lines so they're still not making profit off them. The vile practices this company has committed are so numerous its insane. Then there's their promotion/hiring practices which have been proven in several lawsuits to be Very bias against both women and minorities, its alllllll kinds of fun.
If your really so broke you think you need to shop there go to goodwill, or any other thrift store. The small local markets will normally be a comparable price on food too, there are Options as much as they don't want us to realize it so they can keep strangling the economy all the way down.
*Oh, and as far as bullets go I really could care less about that. I support gun use/ownership, I didn't know they sold them particularly, I really could care less if they started selling heroin at discount rates, it would hardly lower my opinion of them.

I can't even go in a walmart without going home and bathing afterwards. The place makes me feel dirty.

If they're the only store selling discount heroin, then where else am I gonna go? It's hella difficult to get firearms in Canadia unless you have a reason or whatever.

Also, I've seen these 'gun' things on TV. Are they real? I always just assumed I was watching some sort of fantasy reality in which a stupid weapon existed that was easily obtainable by stupid people.

I don't see how it's a stupid weapon. A weapon is supposed to kill people, a gun kills people pretty well and from far away.

Truly the gun is the pinnacle of weapons. It's effective, easy to use, lightweight, etc.

If you're looking for a good all-round* weapon, a gun is what you want. I guess there are better weapons for certain situations, but there's a reason armies the world over carry guns.

Re: Whiskey is like a sweater on the inside
Guns are great because their an equalizer. Suddenly it doesn't matter how strong, or skilled you are, you have a gun. In many ways guns are what have allowed our civilizations to evolve into their current peacenick full states. Pacifism wouldn't exist as a concept in a world where guns or similar were never invented. (Arguably, which is where all the fun comes from the argument.)
