Twilight isn't a book.
Twilight is a printing accident.

Re: What are you reading right now?
I liked Wicked more than Twilight (I was going to say the opposite then I really thought about it), at least it has a plot and characters, and wasn't set in a highschool.*LordRetard wrote:I dunno, I haven't read Wicked but I am confident that there are plenty of shit books out there that an abnormal amount of people like.Kimra wrote:As for Wicked, the book. I found it infinitely boring. I found myself at a loss for why anyone would read it, but also desperately trying to figure out what I had missed, because that many people can't be that wrong.
*nothing against highschool novels, they can be excellent, but I want to bad mouth them anyway.

I have yet to ever read a really good high school novel. I think the closest I've come is Harry Potter.
Just for curiosity sake, anyone actually know any good ones?

Try Young Adult Novel by Daniel Pinkwater. A lot of his books are out of print, but this one's included in an omnibus edition that was published recently. I like all of his high school novels. They're not to everyone's taste, though. I love them for their inane characters and plots, but they're more like comfort food for weird people than heavy, though-provoking literature. I don't know, try it.smiley_cow wrote:I have yet to ever read a really good high school novel. I think the closest I've come is Harry Potter.

I can at least save you the trouble of looking up info on Hank the Cowdog, as it's been discussed here before.

And the stories were always 100% original.

I mostly read fantasy novels so school doesn't actually exist* in them. But I'll try and think of some that I've read that included school, and where good.**

Oh, that's what we're supposed to be recommending? I thought we were aiming for books you read in high school that are good.Kimra wrote:But I'll try and think of some that I've read that included school, and where good.
Still going with Hank the Cowdog.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Something that occurred to me is that, if you didn't have a good time in high school, you probably won't like high school novels. Which is probably why only a handful of them are actually well-known.
On rare occasions I've found good books in the teen section at the library. It's all the sort of stuff that you'd end up reading for school (Catch-22, Animal Farm, Shakespeare) but isn't necessarily written for high schoolers.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Hmm... I hated high school but I like stories that are set in high school. Why? Because they're like fantasy novels. If I can read a story about a dragon and be fine with it, I can read a story about someone having something good happen to them in high school with a healthy level of suspension of disbelief.
