What should smiley_cow do with her life?
I dropped out of Education today. While I do believe this is a good thing and I am probably not made to be a teacher, it does leave me with on glaring question: What now?
I have one year* to figure out what I'm hopefully going to do with the rest of my life. Any suggestions?
*Go me for making life changing decisions just after it was too late to start applying places.

Well, you do seem to enjoy writing, following politics, and educating people. Have you considered a career in journalism of some format? I'm honestly utterly unsure of your skill set, or why you decided to drop out of a field/industry you felt so passionately about. Perchance going into the administrative side, supporting education while not being a teacher specifically might still be a good idea?

Didn't Kimra do this exact same thing a year ago? I'm pretty sure she went back to school in the end.

I think it was a few months ago, rather than a year. But yes that was my first thought.
Ed, you should drop out of whatever you do.

Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned, I already have a Bachelor's degree in French, which I guess opens some doors, but I don't really have many special skills past that.Asherian wrote:Well, you do seem to enjoy writing, following politics, and educating people. I think I'm done with education, one of the reasons I dropped out was because I realised I don't want to be in school forever, I want a job far removed from education. (Maybe this will change later, but it's how I feel right now)
I do like the suggestion of journalism though, or something to do with the news. Honestly I really don't have any ideas for where I want to go at the moment, so any suggestion is good, I just want to get my mind working.

You're always posting about canadian news. So I would suggest going into that.

I don't plan to leave school, just go to a different one.brEaDMINSTER wrote:Didn't Kimra do this exact same thing a year ago? I'm pretty sure she went back to school in the end.
Yes! That job would be all kinds of awesome, I wonder if would be very competitive. Similarly, I could be the person at Question period who translates what the MPs are yelling every time they switch languages.mountainbread wrote:You could be an interpreter!

Considering what I know about you, this seems like something I would recommend.smiley_cow wrote:Yes! That job would be all kinds of awesome, I wonder if would be very competitive. It's really up to you though. Just think about what your skills and strengths are, and what you enjoy doing.

I used to hate school. Did everything I could to avoid it. Now that I'm going again I realize there is probably nothing I would rather do than learn. If I won the lottery I would just buy a house near a university and go to school for the rest of my life.smiley_cow wrote:I don't want to be in school forever.

Re: What should smiley_cow do with her life?
That is true, but I think a lot of that changes when you need to go to school. Like, "I am putting a lot of money into this and there is a risk of fucking it up," versus "I am rich and can do whatever I want and I want this." I find it's a lot easier to do these things when you're out to do them for yourself, instead of some outside pressure. I've taken courses where I wanted to study and go to class, but where I am in life right now that's the exception rather than the rule.Snarky00 wrote:I used to hate school. On a semi-related note, the Slovakian co-worker that I trained was in and we were talking. He really thought I should look into ESL teaching. Which I understand can pay quite well. I'll probably look into it further this weekend: what it would take, and the like.
