Texas: The America of America

Post by rushingfn »

So I bought the shirt. http://smbc.myshopify.com/collections/f ... exas-shirt

And I think that it might be a joke on the state, while others might see it as a partial grain of truth. Either way, the bird holding the gun looks resolute and engaged in whatever it is doing. The backdrop of the rustic Texas flag, weathered and aged by many windy afternoons in Amarillo and numerous triple digit summers just compliments the current conditions of the state.

It seems that Texas has for years been a source of unwarranted self importance that has probably hurt its image while at the same time bolstering its appeal. Her political leanings over the past decade seem to have had the last laugh. When Michigan had its financial misdealing finally catch up to them and the fledgling state's economic policy repeated the ancient parable about a greedy dependent parasites killing their host, that happened to be a goose laying golden eggs, their solution was to not change anything and proceed to buy AM radio ads telling everyone in a confusing and somewhat easily misconstrued argument that businessmen should move their businesses to Michigan because the state would "give them the upper hand". This was during good economic times and it was soon followed by California's government following due course whenever its proverbial financial excrement hit the fan.

So now, in the due course of irony, Texas which has had a state constitution which prevents the legislative branch from spending more than it can take in has had a budget surplus, lax regulation, and a greedy population that doesn't care for the environment and in the words of Clay Davis: will "take a MFer's money if he giving it away!" has more wind turbines per capita than any other state in the union. So despite the already ravenous herds moving to the state from those in more severely affected areas, the governor, Rick Perry, and his Attorney General are now putting out AM radio spots not begging for new relocations, but making the point that they aren't as burdensome on regulations and they won't take your guns away.

Maybe this is why I thought the shirt existed, that or it is an elaborate joke that is adored by those who would argue in favor of the State and those who would deride it from whatever motivation. Either way, it is ingenious and you should buy it. Because damn it is an awesome looking bird.

Wow. Good for you. You have money and you spent it. You are a unique butterfly.

Also I don't read posts that long from people I know and like/respect/tolerate. Yeah... I even got bored skimming your post. Just so you know.

I read the post, however it didn't reflect my precise political views so I would advise others not to read it.
