General Major General

Post by Oldrac the Chitinous »

Major General combined courage, devotion, and pragmatism in a way that's rarely seen. He is, quite deservedly, the very model for all modern Major-Generals.

-Senior Archivist Eddoubleprimeminster
General Holiday Address, 21 February, 2156
Major Adeline General (1982-2070) was an important General in the Early years of the forum, the first head of the SMB City Department of Defense, and the founder and mayor of the city of Generaland.

Major General was born on 21 February, 1982 in Saginaw, Michigan; she was the second daughter of Luther and Genevieve General. She remained in Saginaw through her childhood, and in 1999 enrolled at the University of Buffalo. In 2004 she graduated Magna cum Laude with a BS in Economics. The following year, she married Ignatz Buffalo, a Zoologist in her year at the Universtity, but kept her maiden name.

General first rose to distinction during the Brood War of 1998-1999 a conflict about which little information has survived to the present. What data is available suggests that it was an early dataspace war principally fought between South Korea and the Protoss; General was the Executor of the Protoss Expeditionary Force.

General's successes in the Brood War caught the attention of <<Zach the Inimitable>>. In April of 2006, faced with an increasingly aggressive Spam-bot presence in Outlandia, he hired General on a Mercenary basis under General Malaise. Malaise assigned her command over the newly initiated Outlandia Campaign, and over the next two years, General's forces reclaimed all of Outlandia from the Spam-bots. Pleased with her success, Zach made her post permanent, commisioning her Major General Major General.

Major General General was not active in the bulk of the Blogosphere Offensive. General Malaise, expecting the worst, had assigned her to oversee the defense of the Forum. As a result, following the <<Death of General Malaise>>, General General was the ranking officer in the Saturday Militia, and it fell to her to end the Offensive and bring what remained of the Militia safely home.

During the ensuing era of <<Server Rebalancing>> and the early years of the Second Age of the Forum, General led a series of highly successful raids on prisons in the United States and Canadia in an effort to free those memebers of the militia that had been captured. The total number freed is unknown, but by early 2014 the Militia once again had over 1000 active soldiers.

In 2013, the United Internetions began Operation: Bisexual Counterparts, by which they intended to infiltrate the Militia by replacing key officers with loyal bisexual clones. On 14 March 2014, General was attacked by her counterpart in her Buffalo home. She successfully killed her assailant, but only after suffering serious injuries. It was soon determined that she would require a new liver, kidney, and pancreas in order to live; after determining that the dead counterpart was genetically almost identical to General, these organs were harvested and transplanted into the Major General.

The effects of the copybisexualization on the donated organs became evident several weeks after General was released from the hospital. She began to complain of gender dysphoria that only worsened with time. Although she never sought sex reassignment surgery, and remained married to Buffalo, eventually having two sons with him, in 2017 she formally changed her name to Major Adel General, and was thenceforth identified as male.

In 2018, General was elected the first head of the SMB City Commitee Defense Department. To parallel the titles of other department heads, such as Surgeon-General and Inspector-General, General took the title of General-General. His first act in this role was to restructure the General Corps of the Militia. Previously, the highest-ranking officers had all been personally appointed by Zach the Inimitable, usually as a way of repaying personal favors rather than based on any military acumen. In general, General-General General's generals were better trained, more experienced, and ultimately more successful than those they replaced.

General held the position of General-General until 10 May, 2047, when he retired and moved to a sparsely populated region of Outlandia, where Buffalo opened an electrobison ranch. As a sign of respect, the subsequent Defense Department head, Edprimeminster, took his predecessor's name as a title, a tradition that has been continued by subsequent Major-Generals.

Despite his vocal criticism of the Immortal Nine, General's reputation as a Forum hero protected him during the Apostasy trials. He used this status to provide asylum to some three hundred other citizens, many of whom stayed to build homes in Outlandia after the SMB Civil War. This settlement was incorporated in 2062 as Generaland. General served as mayor of the city until his death on 14 December, 2070.

Author's Commentary:
Some authors writing about Major General use masculine pronouns to refer to her even before 2017. I have not used this convention; I feel it adds to the reader's confusion, rather than reducing it. Also, the reader should not confuse General's title during the Outlandia Campaigns, Major General, with the title named in his honor, Major-General. The latter is a higher rank, fully equivalent to General-General.
General's family by marriage, the Buffalos, and particularly the Buffalo Buffalos, are interesting in their own right, but they are adequately described elsewhere, and outside the scope of this reference.
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

I just don't see how this article is even a little bit true. General General was a man, as it was stated in my article. And I quote:
Afterwards, in a stroke of genius, he set up the most effective method imaginable to prevent the Spam-bots from ever rearing their ugly heads again: the <<Emayle Confirmation Bureau.>>
Further disproving your article, General General was already an established soldier in Zach's army, with the rank of General, as specified in the following quote. He was not a mercenary.
he sent his most fearless warlord, <<General General>>, to eradicate the Spam-bot menace.
Honestly, I don't know how it would be possible to so thoroughly misrepresent the history of the great hero General General.

Yeah, I thought General General was a man too, then I read this, got all excited at finally being able to draw a female, only to learn that she is actually a he again. 5 rough sketches out the window.. sigh.

Yes he was. But before that, she was a woman. I was very clear about this point:

You can retroactively apply masculine language to pre-Bisexual Counterparts General General, and you wouldn't be alone in doing so. But don't try to make me change history to suit your conventions.

I don't know what you're basing the "not a mercenary" claim on, particularly since Zach didn't maintain a standing army prior to the Blogosphere Offensive. Prior to that, he relied exclusively on hired companies, so all of his warlords were mercenary warlords. And "General" is an acceptable style for any General-level officer, Major Generals included.

I don't know what to make of this sudden hostility, Mage, but I hope you won't let it interfere any further with your responsibilities to the Symposium.

Khazd wrote:Yeah, I thought General General was a man too, then I read this, got all excited at finally being able to draw a female, only to learn that she is actually a he again. 5 rough sketches out the window.. sigh.
When you draw the general, remember that he never had sex reassignment surgery.
And don't worry, you'll get plenty of chances to draw women when you have to illustrate the <<Night of a Thousand Lesbians>> article.

General General was never a woman. End of story.

Out of character, my article came first, and according to the rules, must be considered as fact. Just because you wrote your article stating that Zach recruited for his army three years after the Outlandia campaign, doesn't mean that General General only became a soldier at the time.

In fact:

If an entry flatly contradicts the events set down in another entry, the one that was posted first is the official entry. The offending player must correct his entry. More often than not, though, seemingly contradictory entries can be reconciled with the rest with the proper application of spin (or judicious editing). Remember, if you can rationalise it to the satisfaction of the community, it's a part of history.

Resized because you seem to have missed it.

As well, this article does not flatly contradict. It mentions the issue that you are clamoring over, and neatly sidesteps it by providing a succinct explanation for the surface discrepancy.

The military one I am less clear on, as there was no definite article claiming that Zach did or did not have a full army to call upon.

But he was a man when he did the Outlandia campaign, and according to Oldrac he became a man at the beginning of the Blogosphere offensive which according to him occurred three years after.

You know what, I don't even know why I'm mentioning it. I guess its because General General was my character and he's turning into something else other than I imagined. Kinda like what happened with my classical age of SMBC article. Just forget about it.
