Sounds a bit like my last physics class. At least there the professor learned his lesson.

Manual entry answers online are awful.

At my work, I have to start training the guy who's going to be doing the same thing as me after getting one week of training myself. Tobacco products are nasty. I have to clean all the smoking equipment after each group. It's bad.

North Carolina is getting its first hurricane of the season today. I'm not biking to work.

I couldn't believe that this was the first hurricane to hit Florida in 11 years. Part of me felt like it couldn't be that long but thinking back I also couldn't really remember the last time there was a major weather situation in Florida.

Yeah, I was surprised too. They've been affected by hurricanes probably every year in between, but I guess this is the first to make proper landfall. At least one of my friends is in grad school in Tallahassee and is currently without power.

e: to be clear, I do have another friend in grad school in Tallahassee but I don't know their situation

Clowns have been spotted around the Carolinas - trying to lure kids into the woods, wielding machetes, getting chased away by a guy with a machete....

Spooky times!

It seems like the Carolinas are trying to become the new Florida.

Shhh!!

I did instinctively think it happened in Florida before checking, I'll admit.

I got a bit sunburned today. It was because I traveled to a reportedly excellent Pokemon Go location which was better than I had presumed. I expected to spend max 2hrs. I was there for about 4hrs.

The doctor visits continue. I saw the orthopedic surgeon a while back. The good news is the rear labral and rotator cuff tears I probably got shovelling snow healed enough on their own that I don't need a surgery with a long recovery time. The bad news was that I had an "impressive" amount of arthritis on the end of my collar bone. We tried cortisone, but that only worked for a month, so I'll need surgery. It is outpatient with a short recovery though.

I went back to my regular doctor yesterday so he could order blood tests for Lyme's disease and check out a rash on my chest. The rash turned out to be pityriasis versicolor. It is caused when yeasts that are normally on your skin go a bit crazy breeding. It is easily treatable, but due to how much I sweat it will probably reoccur every summer.

So nothing too bad, but I've only had to go to the doctor once in the last four years or so and that was just a sinus infection. So all the consultations, diagnostics and specialist appointments are getting a bit tedious.

I was walking to the corner store to get cigarettes and I saw a shirtless man holding a shirtless woman from behind with his arms around her stomach (she had a bra on, at the time I thought it might have been a bikini top, I wasn't wearing my glasses). She was crying but it looked like the all too common scene of two people out of it on some drug or other. I went in and got my smokes. When I came out the guy was wandering off into the park, the woman was on the ground yelling that he was going to kill her, one guy was with her on his phone. He turned out to be an off duty police officer. Another was on his phone crossing the street to her, but just to be safe I called too and crossed the street. It turned out he was her junkie boyfriend that she just tried to break up with and he assaulted, not for the first time. I gave her my shirt and ended up standing around shirtless for half an hour at the busiest intersection in my neighborhood with a bunch of cops and EMTs.

I won't be going to court since the cops apparently knew him very well, and I wasn't much use as a witness since I didn't see much and couldn't really see anyway. The last time I witnessed a domestic assault it was way outside the city and I did end up testifying, which was a miserable experience, but one I'd willingly do again . Fun times in Baltimore.

So when are you coming to visit Baltimore next Liri?

Jesus.

Uhhhhhhh....

But really, I'll know better once my work schedule has gotten a little more predictable, which makes it tougher to buy cheaper tickets far in advance, but alas.

I finished work after 7 pm yesterday after my coworker, who is supposed to have the same position as me, left at 5. There wasn't anything he's coulda have done to speed things up - it wasn't his fault, but it sucked. We had two fire alarms in my building yesterday, so that wasted a good hour and a half, at least. Then another coworker and I had to figure out what protocol someone in another lab used to divide mice into experimental groups, which also took time.

I wonder how many time sensitive experiments were ruined by the fire drills. I could pause mine where they were but I'm sure there were some losses on 9 floors of labs.

They actually make jitterbug smart phones now. A friend of a friend had to buy one of the dumb phone jitterbugs because she worked in NSA and it was the only cell phone she could find without a camera. She was also a trauma nurse or something and so had permission to have a cell phone with her in the office.

Two 3am trips to the emergency vet in a row for Jack the one eyed cat. It might be a blockage, although none showed on the X-ray, it might be pancreatitis, or possibly a kidney infection. Hopefully it is one of those things and hopefully the most easily treatable one. Waiting for urinalysis and ultrasound.
