My avatar is a vernal pool fairy shrimp (Branchinecta lynchi). It is a shrimp that lives in seasonal pools in California and Oregon. It is listed as Threatened in the US.
I had a way better picture that I was going use, but it was too big and it looks bad if you crop it. It is of the same species of shrimp.

My signature is a quote from LR that I thought was appropriate for a signature. I'll probably change it at some point. What do you think? Should I?

It looks fine when scaled down though, right? Also yes, you should probably change your sig to something funny. Like cat fisting! Except not that, because I've already taken it.

I'm glad to see that I wasn't too subtle with that one.

Have I told you guys what my avatar is? Ah, it can be a bit of forum trivia for you all, when it comes to the eventual SMBC quiz.

My avatar is of a genuine green crayon that I own. I took a picture of it against a white background*, then cleaned it up after resizing. The crayon itself has been with me since very early childhood, and, presently, I have no idea where it's hidden itself.

My sig boldly declares "Pirate." and always has.

I always thought your avatar was charming but amateurish, but now you've mentioned its origins, it looks much, much nicer. Almost like a different avatar, really.

Hmm, that's funny. I guess a different point of view really has an impact on how ones perceives things.

Yes, you're so good at this suggestive hypnosis thing you seem to have convinced even yourself now.
