And it took NBC three days to find out they were wrong too!

I guess Terry Fox isn't a really big thing in the states? Which makes sense. What I don't understand is why someone didn't pick up on the fact that Michael J. Fox isn't much of a runner...

Which reminds me of one of my favourite jokes!

Michael J Fox goes into an ice cream parlor and orders a tall double scoop. The worker asks him what flavor, to which he responds, "It doesn't matter, I'm just going to fucking drop it anyway."

Though you never do know. I remember that one year in speed skating when the Chinese athlete tripped and all the front runners were knocked out and the Australian skated around them and won gold. That could happen again!
You have no idea how much they hyped up that win when it happened. It was funny, and he won gold, but he didn't deserve to become a celebrity and TV personality overnight because of it.

Even though we're in the same time zone as the games, they don't show it in real time an insead split up all the events (so that you see only one athlete before commercials, and then switching to something else). They drag it on so that you have to sit there all night just to watch one event, and stay up till midnight.
I'd also double check any facts NBC gives you. So far they've reported that Micheal J Fox's mother is a possibility for the final torch bearer because Micheal J Fox once ran across the country for cancer* and claimed Prime Minister Stephen Harper is writing a book about hockey.**

Today I was watching the men's figure skating, and it was amazing. I'm ashamed to say my favourite contestant was not Patrick Chan, Canadia's favourite to win, but American Johnny Weir. Half of why I watch figure skating is for the outfits and he was wearing a corset! American Evan Lysacek, who came in second, had a pretty good outfit on too. It had feathers!***

*For the non-Canadians, they got him mixed up with Terry Fox, who is a national hero and died very young.

**I'm actually not sure where this one came from..

***Sorry, I tried to find pictures, but I failed miserably. Maybe there'll be some up tomorrow.

NBC! Image
Are they doing that 'for this country only' thing? Because that is really annoying. Have you tried live streaming through TSN?
Johnny Weir is amazing! I went to bed too early to see Patrick Chan, but I'm interested. I was actually rooting for Takahashi Daisuke, who's third right now. Yeah, they do the "for this country only thing", although they pay more attention to the foreigners than they used to. What still annoys me is how they only show the medal ceremony if an American gets a medal. I always go "I know what the Star-Spangled Banner sounds like. I want hear some other country's national anthem".

Yep, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe tonight I'll try to find the rest of the mens' online.

Go look them up on youtube. TV is for sport*, olympics only come once in 4 years, they're wasting time by showing medal ceremonies.

*There's f*ck all else worth watching

I'm told Patrick Chan is a lot better than he was the other night, apparently on top of being Canadia's champion he's also won silver at the worlds twice. This is his first Olympic though, so I guess he's not used to it yet. Also there's a lot of pressure on him to do well.

I would not complain if Takahashi won gold, he was pretty impressive last night too. At the very least I would love it if he got a medal since apparently Japan has never made it to the podium in this event.

Edit: I just saw Patrick Chan's costume, and I think I now want him a lot more! (No less than two contestants were only wearing a normal blue shirt and black pants. Pah I say!)

That was a stressful game. Canadia played real sloppy, with only Crosby and Nash playing exceptionally well (the former only doing so after the non-call on the highstick that got him bleeding). But we managed the win, just not the three points. Now we need to beat USA.
Also, the Swiss coach was from Steinbach. Home of Ian White (former Leaf d-man, now on Calgary). And some of my family. Also a lot of car dealerships. And it is a dry town. THE MORE YOU KNOW!

Also, the speedskating (1000m Long) was cool. As someone with Dutch ancestry, it was cool to watch it all come down to the second last race, with 2 Dutch and 1 Canadian current medal holders, and a Canadian and Dutch as the last racers. Disappointing that the other Canadian didn't manage a medal (by .06s) but I can't complain to much as the other Canadian only managed a win by .02s. The standings were 1.Canadian, 2.Dutch, 3.Dutch, 4.Canadian, 5.Japanese, 6.Dutch. (#4 and #6 being the last skaters).

Just finished watching the men's figure skating. Chan unfortunately came in fifth, though it was a higher score than I expected after watching him skate since his jumps weren't all there.

Evan Lysacek won, and totally deserved to too. He was probably the only skater who had a near flawless program. Weir, I thought, skated excellently as well, but scored poorly. Even the commentators who are former Olympic champions, were pretty surprised at how poorly he scored. He still had the best costume though, and when the cameras showed him to show his score, he was wearing a crown of roses. I strongly approve of this.

And Takahashi got bronz! Honestly, he wasn't as clean as he should have been, and he didn't land all his jumps, so it's too bad, but I think it's what he deserves. Still the first Japanese athlete to get a medal in this even though, so that's a plus.

I was watching some downhill skiing. There were a bunch of Aussies cheering for their guy. They had inflatable kangaroos. Ugh.

It's short for toboggans.

I think they were at the wrong event.
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.
