There's some sort of famous chocolate shoppe in Santa Cruz that's really nice I hear. Honestly I do most of my traveling northwards to the headlands or the mountains twixt san jose and san fransico. (Windy Hill is off 35 and 92, fricking amazing picnic spot.) Pescadero is a sterotype pretty beach for visiting, especially if you like the rockier kind. Horribly late of course, but well. That doesn't mean you can't use the info for later dates/times to try and woo her/make up for something horrible.
Bay lands is a nice walking park in sunnyvale off lawerence with lakes/pathways and the like for picnics too if you want somewhere closer/local.

judging that they were going there for V-day, i'd guess he's already back by now. unless he was talking about VE-day
