Are you guys aware that there are such things as font snobs out there? It's true! I have proof here and here

So here is my question for all you guys, were you aware of this? Are there any particular fonts I need to watch out for, lest I become ostracized from the Interwebs, forced to associate only with 13 year old girls who don't know how to type a sentence without the word lol, and trolls?

Also just out of curiosity, since I just discovered this sort of thing existed, do any of you guys have a favourite font?

I prefer Arial and Times New Roman, but then again I like the comfort of the familiar.

Also, I'm kind of a snob when it comes to what fonts people use over IM conversations.

::edit::
Also also, when I clicked the main page of that LMNOP site, the top entry was 'Saturday Morning Pancake Breakfast' and I was hoping it was some reference to SMBC. Instead, it's a dog :(

Comic Sans seems to be the one everybody* hates. I'm not particularly fond of it myself, but the loathing some people out there have for it is just staggering.

*Everybody who hates certain fonts

Yes! That and when people use wonky colours. It's even worse when the two are combined.

Is it sad that I know 5/7 of those fonts in the first link?

Wow, I had no idea there was so much to it. I'm glad I no longer use coloured text when IMing. Also I tend to use courier new so I can pretend I'm a fast talking journalist from the 1920's. This is acceptable right?

It is a bit acceptable.

I find Arial slightly boring, so I've started to use Georgia.

I pretty much entirely stick to Times New Roman, because it is the only thing that looks normal to me. Also, in messenger I make the colour a dark blue, because it is my favourite.

I absolutely hate it when I see Microsoft's Matisse on billboards and websites and shit.
It just smacks of doing a job half-assed. They want to be original by not using the standard couple of fonts, but they are too lazy to actually do anything personally creative. Ugh.
And I think it is all-caps, so it has the eye-assault factor.
The reason I know about it is because I thought it was the coolest in the 8th grade. I've either grown up or become terribly cynical. Though I think there may be a correlation.

Whenever I have the chance to be creative with fonts, I load up one of my favorite websites, www.dafont.com, and pick one that fits whatever I'm writing perfectly.

Which makes sense. I pretty much stick to Times New Roman and Arial.
I did have to write a paper for one prof who wanted Courier, triple spaced, and I think a 2 inch margin on the left side, with the regular 1 inch on the right. What would've been a 10 page paper over doubled in size. I think, all told, it was about 25 pages I handed in (he also had a few other ridiculous things he wanted attached which escape me).

I remember seeing a sketch on YouTube or sommat about a guy whose memos and whatnot were out of hand. It was pretty funny, I recall.

If possible I prefer to use Lucida Console, I've no idea why but its easier on my eyes to identify individual letters then any of the other commonly available fonts. I hate New Times Roman with a fiery passion for a similar reason, all the characters seem slightly malformed and harder to read. Particularly some character combinations (I'm looking at you rn). I was very annoyed at my old boss for insisting I used 10 pt Arial for all my emails not console 8pt, apparently it 'mattered' for some forsaken reason that I and all my reports were Arial, and of that specific size.

That said when I had a teacher I could get away with it in high school and early college I wrote my own fonts for papers. I had a little editor program that you could either make new ones from scratch or just modify others. Only bothered with it for printed material since unless I shared the font with other people they couldn't read it, not worth the effort. Only "special" reports got this treatment, ... you know there might be a reason all my english teachers hated me in high school and were glad when I'd stop showing up to class except to turn things in.

They hated it when I started to live in their department room with free reign, I cackled with glee to see certain of them distressed so.

When I feel like annoying people, I prefer to use jokerman, in red font. It annoys the hell out of people*

*1-2 people I actually talk to on msn

Oh yeah. Jokerman. Ugh.
Also, my mom has a fascination with Kristen ITC. Which gets annoying quickly, too.

Whenever I write stories, I do so using Lucida Console. But then again, it's the default font in Notepad and I'm too lazy to change it, so that might be why I use it over any preference.
