NIN|JA

Post by w1ndy »

I went to the NIN and Janes Addiction show in Mountain View, CA at the Amphitheater. This is the first and probably last time I'll ever get to see these two bands live. I've only been to a few live show's of this size and usually they can be more annoying then enjoyable (Oakland Arena) but when you've got seats way in the back it's pretty much expected, but this Amphitheater in Mountain View was setup really well, and the sound was superb, I could see all the stuff going on stage, they also had nice projectors everywhere, it was a nice production, I definitely recommend going to shows there.

NIN was on, they played tons of their old songs, many from Pretty Hate Machine, when Head like a hole came on everybody went nuts, the sound was better than I expected, it almost sounded like I was listening to their CD, which I'm still not sure if I like that, I didn't get the LIVE presence like Janes Addiction can entice you with, they can really perform. The Janes Addiction's act from start to finish was bizarre, they had a bunch of almost naked chicks on stage in the beaning, which I'm not sure why the left, that was about the coolest part. I'm guessing the venue size is one reason the visuals where limited, but for the most part both bands rocked.

Anyways I can't complain it was a great show all together, especially since I was able to sneak in without getting any shit. Also some kid jacked a cop car at the end of the show, that was pretty sick.

Glad you got to hear some bands you like! I can't relate further than that, as I'm not a fan.

Jane's Addiction is not what they use to be. When they played up here at the NIN|JA, they were kinda boring. Back when I saw them in Munich, they were awesome. Put on an awesome show, lotsa energy and I smoked a joint with the bassist. But that was almost 20 years ago... Damnit, I have to stop posting things that make me feel fukin old.

I'm actually surprised at the pairing, but I probably shouldn't be. I like Jane's Addiction a great deal, but I'm sad to learn they are maybe not so great now, Kazd? I don't even know when their albums are from because I don't pay attention to that sort of thing. Sounds like a sick concert, overall, Windy.

Perry Farrell is a crazy person.
I still like his stuff. Not enough to buy it, but I do enjoy listing to the occasional Jane's Addiction or Porno For Pyros.
Also, I had forgotten that Navarro was back with JA, which is pretty sweet.

I've never really dug NIN. I kind of like Closer, but that may be mostly due to its association with Se7en. And Hurt is pretty good. I can't stand his last couple of albums, though. Except for Only. Which is a great song, and an even greater video (directed by David Fincher, who also directed Se7en).

I saw Jane's Addiction at Lollapalooza a few years ago, there were really drunk guys trying to mosh to them and failing miserably. Incubus stole that show though.

NIN has had to be one of the best live bands I've seen, as in the music meshing almost perfectly with the visuals they throw out.
I really wanted to make one of these shows, but I missed the chance.

I'm.. worried in discovering just how close W1ndy lives to me.

TMBG was the best live show by far that I've gone too, but John and John just know how to please a crowd. Though the fact John Linnell appears to not have aged in the last 20 years was somewhat disturbing.

I've never seen them live, did you watch them in Mountain View?

Did you goto BFD? I heard that was pretty awesome, a few people from work went but I was to busy. I'm going to try and goto the Outside Lands this year!

I caught them when they were down in LA a few years ago, they don't do the west coast very often.

I um.. don't really go to concerts, at least the ones I go to tend to be in coffee shops, or churchs that rent out the space, or at conventions. If you've seen me in real life its 90% likely to have been at one of the conventions around this area, I've worked some of the bigger ones pretty consistently.

Anyone thinking of going to All Points West this summer? They have a pretty good lineup, but it's sufficiently expensive that I'll probably only get tickets/go for the first day (Vampire Weekend, Ra Ra Riot, and The National are highlights for me). Thoughts? Experiences with All Points West in the past? Mockery?
not actually a saint.
