What games are you playing right now?

Post by AHMETxRock »

Hey, why don't we have this thread? Would be nice perhaps. Anyways, here I go!

So I bought Bowser's Inside Story and Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin. The uppity teenager insisted that Inside Story was a shitty game, in which I replied the game mechanics were fun and interesting, even if a bad mario game. I was skeptical about Days of Ruin when I first read about it, but since I bought AW2 three times before I finally just emulated the damn thing so I wouldn't lose it, why not?

I found Bowser to be fun to control. A similar battle system but totally different keeps things fresh, but I have much further to go. I got stuck on the carrot level, where even though the game tells me to watch what falls when the icon flashes, I have no idea which thing I'm actually supposed to click. Always miss by a few seconds.

Advanced wars, I was iffy about, because they changed Neotanks to Wartanks, added a whole bunch of different units, and altered pricing and power accordingly. They also got rid of CO boosts, instead opting to have your CO character influence a few units around where it is deployed. Oh yeah, they also eliminated the characters; it has no connection to the previous ones, which I guess could have worked.
AND IT DID. OH MY GOD WHY DID I EVEN DOUBT THEM. THE SOUNDTRACK IS MUCH BETTER, INSTEAD OF CARTOONY 10 YEAR OLDS EXCITED TO GO TO WAR THERE IS AN ANGSTY 16 OR SOMETHING YEAR OLD EXCEPT HE'S ONLY LIKE THAT BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP DYING AND IT TOTALLY WORKS.
Just like an std, will never fully go away.

I'm still having fun playing my old school games on emulators. Good old Super Mario Brothers - I'm thinking of downloading some hack so I can still play the game but on new levels omg.

I've also finally got a good DOS emulator so I can play the next two games of Jill of the Jungle without it being excruciatingly slow. Yay!

I find I'm running out of patience with putting in the startup time for games I usually like playing. I dig strategic fantasy games with a whole new combat interface, like final fantasy and all that, but it's hard for me to justify putting in the homework hours to figure out the best way to work it.

But mostly TF2, though I'm in a 2Fort rut for the longest time, and Torchlight, which is kinda neat but too easy. I bought Civ4 when Steam had it cheap (like ten bucks!) but I got that have-to-learn-a-whole-new-world resistance there too.

It's gonna get pretty repetitive for me, so I'll just say it once. Maplestory.

Actually, who's played Scribblenauts? I mean I figure that has to be either impossibly cool for the first half hour, and then just kinda lame after that.

I'd like to say City of Heroes and Pokemon Dungeons, but this hasn't been true since school started again, and probably won't be true again until summer.

Not paying so much for a game after I already buy the damn game, but city of heroes seemed fun. Runescape hooked me by being a free way to burn time and more complex than mindless point and click games. A funny coincidence happened that you'd only get if you knew the story, but it happened and it was funny to me.

I'm level 102 out of 138, and I only started playing again because my brother always went on my account anyways.

Man, Pokemon Dungeons was so awesome when I first loaded it. Then I beat Rayquaza, and the game is beaten! Yay! Save my game, sleep for the night. Oh hey there little sister, you want to play on my gameboy? Sure. Oh, you deleted it? Crap. I'll have to do it again. Oh hey, I beat it again finally and you started it over again? This is kinda getting stupid. Not even half the game is unlocked when you beat the game. Oh, you started it over a third time when I finally beat the game and got my first legendary? Yeah, screw this game. Oh, I'm sticking some gum to it so it will never be played again.

I recently acquired a DS and Wii so I have a lot on my plate. These are the ones I've taken a look at already:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: It's a fun game but a serious disappointment. Not really an improvement on the previous game, except that I really like King Dedede and Meta-Knight, and all of the Kirby music and levels because that's my favourite Nintendo franchise. Other than that there's nothing that I could say that wouldn't sound cooler than it really is.
Metroid Prime 3: Metroid has never led me down the wrong path. It's very difficult to aim with the wiimote but other than that I like the controls and Metroid is always fun.
Elebits: The guy running the store said that it was a lot like Katamari and that basically meant that I had to buy it. It's a lot of fun but it's not as easy or intuitive as Katamari is. Still I wouldn't knock it. It's just fun and a little bit silly and I like to smash up the place, even though that'll lose the level most of the time.
Red Steel: The guy running the store (a different store) said "you can definitely tell that it's a launch title, but for $10 you might as well buy it." I basically agree with this assessment. It's absolutely hideous and the swordfight parts are downright surreal (why can't I just shoot him?? will my yakuza father-in-law give me bad street cred?), but the game makes up for it by letting me hold my gun sideways like a gangsta.
New Super Mario Bros.: This is a true return to classic side-scrolling Mario and they pull it off dazzlingly. I've read reviews saying that it's not very original but everyone knows that and no one cares.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village: Totally rockin'. I love puzzle games, especially when the puzzles are designed for a 10-year-old, and after playing The Diabolic Box these puzzles seem even easier. Aside from that the music and art are fantastic and the dialogue is very witty and funny.
Brain Age: It's more clever than it sounds, but I don't really have the discipline to play it for more than a few days at a time. That's the same reason that all of my Animal Crossing guys got mad at me.
The World Ends With You: Too hard!! But I love the music and the atmosphere, and the gameplay is very clever, if intrinsically impossible. I've given up and started fighting bosses on "easy" mode, which is actually a pretty cool feature as it allows you to see the whole story without being any good at the game.
Izuna 2: Nippon Ichi title for the DS. What can I say? They make them knowing that only someone so dedicated to nostalgia would buy them. And then we do.

I've left a lot of games unfinished lately (including ones I left off the list, and some I haven't even opened) but when I come back to them I'll post again. Christmas is hard on a person.

But Champions Online is the enemy!*

Also I get to play CoH for free because my brother has more than one account and I steal it from him! Mwahaha!

*Actually now that Jack Emmet left this isn't so much the case anymore, but I still wouldn't say it too loudly to the CoH community

But it's such a good game. I made a character called the Flamingo, and he stabs people.
