Something Completely Different
http://www.fluffybricks.blogspot.com
This is my blog.
This is my hobby.
I made a few of the things on the blog, but most of them are photos of other people's work, they send me the photos to put up.
It's an absolutely awesome hobby and is very definitely an 'art'!
These are mainly 1:12 scale miniatures, with some bigger, some smaller scales. This means a 6 foot man would be represented by a 6 foot doll in miniature.
As you can see people put a HUGE amount of effort and detail into creating these scenes. And some are historical, some beautiful, some weird, some gross...
There's a Godzilla, a Mrs Lovett's Pie Shop, a Lord of the Rings Hobbit House, a modern style Ikea house, a used kitty litter tray, all sorts of stuff. Real life, history, and imagination, represented in miniature.
I created the blog to be able to show people the hobby, and give inspiration.
/is now considered a freak by all, after this and the lano and woodley thread...

I do not understand this hobby. You are just taking pictures of the inside of your house.

They are miniatures, so technically they are not photos of her house, but of the dwarves who live next door. They look very nice though, it took me a long time to realise that it wasn't just ordinary furniture.

Since when is chemistry not a science?

Re: Something Completely Different
I refuse to believe that they are miniatures. They are too detailed.

And is it sad that these miniatures are nicer than my real house?

It's easier to get really nice furniture when you're 1/12 the side. That's not to say that I think that I could actually put anything this nice together anyway.

That explains how you can get that much detail in there.Tundra wrote:This means a 6 foot man would be represented by a 6 foot doll in miniature.
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

Re: Something Completely Different
One of my friends has a mother who's really into it. After seeing her apartment she probably spends more money on her collection than rent on a monthly basis. I saw some of these dolls, all dressed up, and she told me that some of the pieces (individual pieces, not whole dolls; like arms and legs and shit) can run a few hundred dollars. And she goes to a bunch of meets in Toronto, and I saw photos of all of their dollfies together. All the same, whenever I visited and saw those dolls, all I could think of is "holy fuck that thing is fucking creepy."Kimra wrote:Tundra, what do you think of those 'dollfie' things?

Re: Something Completely Different
Yes. But a potential cash cow if you make miniature things and sell them on the internet. If I could sew I would totally get into the business of making mini clothes for them. Only problem is I'd have to buy a doll to start with, and as you pointed out, they are somewhat expensive. (and I still can't sew)

Re: Something Completely Different
They creep me out. Totally different hobby, and not something I'm into at all. I do like that they're so jointed. I've got some 1:12 scale miniature dolls that have a whole lot of joints, but I don't 'play' with them like the people with their dollfies do. I... also don't like how the Dolfies look- they don't look realistically proportioned, face wise. It's like playing with an anime person, and anime people creep me out. Anyway. To each their own, I just don't want one myself.Kimra wrote:Tundra, what do you think of those 'dollfie' things?
I can assure you that these are miniatures, not photos of real rooms.
And yes, I'm female.
