Not really. People aren't "tricked" into liking shitty books, that inclination was already in them. They're dumb and that's why they like shitty books. Or, if you prefer; all this shows us is that humanity was doomed from the start.

The books became a fashion statement, a horribly written and disturbing fashion statement. Silly kids buy the books just to say they bought it, some will also read it just to say they've read it. It's like what self-professed book-lovers do with all the classics, but on a much larger scale.

Well then that's perfect. If they're only there for a fashion statement then they're not even reading it. It wouldn't matter in the least what they're reading. How does that go?
