Wally is the original British version, Waldo is the American translation I believe.

I am arguing with you because I grew up with Waldo dammit! He will always be Waldo in my heart.

Besides, if you call him Wally, how does Odlaw make sense? Answer me that.

Waldo was his his nickname, but his name was still Wally!

Why was an American 'translation' even necessary? It makes no sense!

Only queers get named Wally in America.

Then why would they give him a more queer name instead?

English things are always translated into American. Otherwise Americans wouldn't buy/read/listen/watch it. That's why instead of just showing the British Office, American Idol, All in the Family, they had to make new, more American, versions.

I even have a couple of Wodehouse books in American*, and my mom owns the first four Harry Potter books in American.

*I didn't mean to, they changed the title of the book, so I didn't think I owned it yet.

I manage to read American books. This is an outrage.

And I hold YOU personally responsible!

But if we were to stop the practice, think of all the British English -> American English translators who'd be out of a job!?

They have families!*

Do you need regrets to have responsibility?
