Teen Angst - you all had it, who wrote it?

SO I was going through the poetry thread and realised that there are people out there who can write things that are pleasing to the eye. I also realised that all the poetry I had written had been written when I was a young, angsty teenager obsessed with her incredibly individual and special pain ie truly awful and quite scarily depressing. Everyone goes through these stages at some point (usually after being dumped for the first and most damaging time). Beginning with this beauty:

Its just another small killing
The blood was barely spilling
From the neat little wound
Sorry, the singer crooned
Lying for not the first
But somehow the worst
But one becomes two
Then more before he's through
The dagger stabs its refrain
Blood begins its flow again
The wound grows longer
But the scab is stronger
The edges are more ragged
The wound makes haggard
And sorry is just another
Lie to soothe the other
A scar now has slighted
That which was unblighted
Nothing more than a throb
Come those to finish the job
Till one more skilled hit
Slips past the scar to sit
In the flesh that again bleeds
On the endless pain it feeds
Because one small killing
Is never very filling

post the most awful examples of your angst...

Thankfully, after finishing high school I ended up deleting most of the poetry on my computer, as well as cutting up and recycling all of my paper copies... Most of what snuck through is in the poetry thread. Even so, on occasion I'm still churning out outstanding examples of bad teen angst poetry. I remember a couple of years back I ended up buying a book of bad poetry for a friend... It was pretty sweet. I bet she still has it somewhere. Actually, if I can get my hands on my 2006-2007 yearbook I know I had a couple of terrible poems that they put in there.

OKAY I did find something I sent in an email in 2006. It's pretty fucking terrible! I like to pretend that I am no longer the shittiest fucking writer in the world.
As I watch the soldiers march
Their souls in hand
Life or death? What hangs in the balance?
Humans wish to die fighting
Blinding light it burns them
A glimpse of desire
Then what of us?
Left in the dark - deprived
That man makes his own choice
Throw caution to the wind, ashes to ashes
But what of us?
Left behind - mistakes were made
(soldiers keep on marching)
Left in the dark - mistakes were made
A soldier finds his own path
Will he be crushed by oblivion
Or live to see another day?
At least
He made the choice
To have a choice.
March on soldiers

Bleeding eyes and broken mind
YOUR FUCKING ESCAPE!
Weak fool
Traded it all for another dime
And spin the wheel, you'll be lucky
For one more day!
A human as decadent as you?
No fucking way.
Like a million dollars
You live like there's nothing more
(You're living in a bubble!) -Hahaha!
Rot, rot, rot!
Another day.
Rot, rot, rot!
Where's your escape now?
Rot, rot, rot!
Where's your saviour now?
Falling down, see it all spinning
'till it all rots away
And you and your soul are both mad
And blind
(and blind?)
Run, run!
Rot, rot, rot!
Run, run!
Time's almost up; will you still run?
Is there achance left?
Maybe not.
Rot.

Another day, another sun
It shines brightly on me
Pure
Feel so wonderful
All we've got is to live
Live
Sights blinding in all directions
And I have so much love in my heart
Innocent
I remember the days
Sky is clear
Water for miles
Feelin' fine
Fine
Dancing lights all round
reflecting off the surface
So beautiful
As the waves flicker and send stars up to the sky!
Euphoric is the way
I'm through with sorrow
Gonna find my own path
In the sea of dancing lights

I did the same to most of mine, it was surprising to find a few tucked away. Pretty sure that I haven't seen a happy poem from any teenager in the throes of puberty. War, death, self harm - all the things one wants to spend ones time thinking about

I still write about all of those things, I'm just a better writer.

Case in point: John the Vagrant and that one about the fatty with a butter knife.

I dug up some emo crap that I wrote 10 years ago. It's nigh unreadable. I'm thinking about editing it up and posting it. The horror.

I think I have some of it in my journal somewhere. If I can bear to find it and type it out I'll post it here.

Truly, you should have no fear in posting after what I started out with

It's basically the longest run on sentence ever and its not poetry, it is just a non fiction narrative of my first day back at school that year.

I've got some teen angst from THREE DAYS AGO
There is no beauty in my life.

Nothing in my life is beautiful. There are things with complicated patterns, get close enough and they're simple. There are lights everywhere, shining out into the darkness but they're powered by a fear of the unknown and an arrogance that says of itself that it never feared the darkness, that the darkness is afraid of it.

On a road you can take away the tarmac and the trees and the grass and the lines and you end up with what? A white room? Artless and nothingness. No ideas. Nothing to see, nothing to do, even if seeing or doing meant anything.

And art? Art, capital A "Art". A reflection of truths? And a truth is? Chemicals. Chemicals in the brain make a truth. Chemicals in the brain make religion and all other lies and chemicals in the brain make love and they make hate and they make everything they need to make this chemical reaction we call life keep on going and going and going until physics breaks down and it stops.

The pursuit of knowledge? Well done, now you can see the strings. You can see the clockwork you're inside and the clockwork that's inside and on and on and on and on and on. You're looking up the ladder at everything mundane or down the ladder at everything that exposes the meaninglessness of existence.

And suicide? You're going to throw away your consciousness? For what? In a world without meaning, why would suicide be meaningful?

And every time I think these thoughts I stop laughing at myself and I lie down and I cry because that is the only way to cope. To react in violence would be meaningless, it would be a howl and a howl only feels good and feeling is your caveman brain trying to trick you into continuing.

And on and on and on and on and on and on.

Well that was certainly better than anything I came up with in my angsty depressed teens.

When does it stop being teen angst, and start being regular ol' depression? Hmmmmm?

But some of the best teen angst bands are well over 20...
