[9-16-2018] Invention

Post by RecoveringCatholic »

This is a rather late comment on this comic, since it took a while to get registered, but since I went to the effort, I might as well. . .

Just for the record, "holy water" doesn't "work" that way.

In Catholic theology, holy water is basically just a "grace" -- it's sort of like taking a multivitamin for the soul, I suppose -- but it doesn't absolve one from sins.

Only a person authorized with the appropriate mumbo jumbo and, of course, male genitalia, a priest, that is, is allowed to absolve one from sins after you confess them to him.

At least that's my recollection. I haven't set foot in a church for any religious reasons since about 1978 and things might've changed.

By the way, if you want a great insight into why the Catholic Church is such a mess of pedophilia, etc., you might want to read a book titled "The Dark Box: A Secret History of Confession" by John Cornwell, which gives a pretty detailed and quite readable history of the confessional.
