Well it was more accessible for me, since you keep your rides to yourself you North American Continent people.

Alternate answer: But did it have Johnny Depp?

No but it does have pirates pillaging and chasing around girls that they most likely intend to rape in a cartoonish manner. It's amazing what's considered acceptable on a Disney ride.

Oh, it contains implied rape? Well that sounds like fun.

If I'm going to be honest, I really can't defend it.

Well, depends on when you last went. I rode it after the movie came out, and they had revamped the ride so that it was all characters from the movie.

So yes, there was Johnny Depp.

I've never been to Disneyland but I have read this cartoon.

I went to Disneyland when I was six and hated it.

I loved the Golden Compass books. I didn't see the movie because it looked stupid.

I didn't like the way they changed the name of the book.

Northern Lights is a good name.

Yeah I loved those books and was incredibly disappointed by the movie.
Why would you attempt to adapt a series of books whose whole message was anti organised religion, and then leave out the religious aspect to avoid possibly offending one of the most powerful organised religions?

And why would you take out the word alethiometer?

That's a brilliant word!

Okay, that's all good. But I was serious, can someone tell me what they liked about it?

The movie? A reasonably unique and entertaining fantasy story. It is rare enough to get one where it isn't the same played-out storyline, nevermind one where you don't know the source material backwards and forwards. Which was the case for me. I liked it enough that it made me want to pursue it more.

Yeah I didn't read the book either. The movie was interesting enough for me to want to see the conclusion.

It's a pretty original, gripping alternate universe/fantasy narrative that raises a lot of interesting questions to do with faith, human nature and organised religion.
That's why I liked it, anyway.

I think you'd like Wicked as well.

I like my deeper meanings to be a little more hidden.
