Odd, I'm the opposite. I can finish most novels in a day if I have the time, but the shortest time it's ever taken me to read a short story compilation was two weeks.

I love short stories. They're short enough that I can actually focus on them. I like to buy and read a short story collection from an author before I read a book by them.

So, I have an audiobook to recommend. I am as shocked by this development as any of you who know my position on audiobooks, but you will understand my reasoning for the recommendation when you know what it is.

I am the slowest reader I know. I refuse to fix this, because I have a misguided belief that I get more out of books because of it. I don't, by the way. I just can't do things quickly and considering how much I read, and how much I love reading / writing this is kind of sad. No wonder everyone else has read every book under the sun and I'm still sifting around going "Oh yeah I should read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy etc etc."

If we haven't mentioned it I'd be surprised. It think it is obligatory to reference it every 25 posts or so.

I'm reading through it again, because I was going through the motions in an attempt to finish it in the middle stages, and stopped enjoying it for some reason. Maybe I can go back and see the humour in it that I missed the first time around.

Also, I don't really want to part with the collection even though the previous owner wished it that I leave it somewhere for someone else to find after I'd finished it, like he did. So I'm going to try and re-read it 5 times or so before that dreaded day.

I wish I hadn't lost my copy of Jean-Paul Sartre's Nausea. That was looking to be a smashing book.

Reading the story of the scammers is great. I much prefer that to a Nigerian Hitch-hiker's guide.

Is Nausea a novel or a play? I read Huis Clos by Sartre a while ago for a French class and thought it was great, I really wouldn't mind reading more of his stuff.

The short story "A jury of her peers" was an entertaining read. Fairly short, not too short, and it was pretty cool.

Found it today! It was at a different library where I put in extra hours. My life has meaning again.

It's very good, and moreover I find it interesting because the nausea described in the book reminds me of the constant nausea I felt in high school. Really wacky that someone thought of that exact thing forty or so years ago. It's in the form of someone's diary, complete with footnotes by the "editor", but it reads like a novel.
