I have discovered a great fondness for books and stories translated from spanish. I've just read lots of different books written in Spanish and something in the sense of them and the way they are translated is really pleasant. I've been reading a lot of Jorge Luis Borges, I'm reading A Hundred Years of Solitude, and I've read many different books of this standard including some things by Isabel Allende, Laura Esquivel, and others. I read a little bit of Like Water For Chocolate in spanish, but I don't know spanish well enough to not be thinking about the language instead of the story. Nonetheless, I did think it was great.

I'm a fan of Márquez. I bought some short stories of his in the original Spanish and it's painstaking... I tried to read un día de estos for a class but in the end I just faked some information on the exam (la Violencia, blah blah blah, whatever)... Still waiting on that mark.

I'm getting into 16th and 17th century literature, recently. I read Cyrano De Bergerac's Journey to the Moon and am getting into the Old Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney.

I keep meaning to pick up some McCarthy. I know my library has a couple; I think The Road and No Country for Old Men. I think I'll read the latter first; does this match your recommendations? I'll probably pick it up on Friday since I've been meaning to get some reading in anyway.

Read The Road first. Do you have ANY kind of connection with your father?(if you don't have one I'm terribly sorry Q~Q ) And if you don't have one still, just pick it up. The movie was ill-received because of how depressing it was. It isn't half as depressing as the book. It is a masterpiece of language(in my highschool opinion) and just a deep, entertaining, depressing as FUCK book. I was reading it out loud to my friend and started crying by accident. Though then again I sorta have a really deep connection with it. My dad gave it to me while I was in the hospital and there is one part that just... ugh... kinda sorta makes me want to claw my eyes out. But yeah. Excellent. I'm gonna pick up all of his books that I can. Right now I'm reading "All the Pretty Horses".

Yeah I have a connection with my father. Anyway I'm into depressing novels so I'll probably pick it up; it's one of those post-apocalyptic things, right? I'm not a big fan of the concept but whatever. I was just talking to my mother and she kind of dashed McCarthy and called him over-rated but I'll give it a try anyway. We might not have The Road at my library (now that you mention it I might be thinking of All the Pretty Horses), and I'm not gonna bother buying it or getting it from another library so otherwise I'm gonna grab No Country for Old Men.

People, people. I am disappoint.

The fora do not even mention the name Kundera once (before right now, that is). The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a must read for anyone attempting love, i think. At the very least, it touches some unwordable parts of what a life should be. Also, the narratives kick the ass of any storyteller ever.

I also think that David Foenkinos is a very pleasant author to read. So is Nicolas Dickner (Apocalypse for beginners).

Also, the aformentioned Adams, Pratchett and James Joyce are perty cool people.
