Well, I do no such thing. I just fix my own car, and feel like a superbadass when doing it. Yeah, that happened.

I used to fix my own car too, and feel super bad ass doing so as well. Right up until that time I dropped the engine on my hand when changing the pan gaskets. My girlish wails of pain made my father laugh so hard it took him over 20 minutes to jack the engine back up to free my hand. I don't know which was worse, the feeling of the flywheel slowly digging into my flesh or the fact that my dad took pictures before freeing me.

Well, I just changed the lightbulb for the front left headlight. But, I mean, that was like brain surgery for me.

Re: Stick up for yourself.
The most fixing on my car has been plugging a hole in the floor. Lots of bondo and a few pieces of sheet metal later, it was as good as new. And 3 months later it died completely, blown head-gasket.
I do remember feeling really good about being able to fix my lawnmower after taking a small engines course. I took it all apart and cleaned it and it ran real smooth. Then the following spring, I took it out of our little shed to do the first cut of the year, and it started on the first pull (after 4-6 months of sitting dormant, in the cold Canadian winter). I was pretty proud of that.

Re: Stick up for yourself.
My dad is a mechanic. I've fixed major stuff on a car. I don't see the appeal, aside from some false sense of manlyness.
It is great to know how. I'll be able to save a crapload fixing my own vehicles.
Some lighting systems are complicated, so it could have be justified in being difficult.

I've watched people change oil, and it seems remarkably simple. So, when you guys are driving your motorcycles, do you do your own maintenance with a simple tool kit and work with your hands, or do you hire people?

I don't drive or fix anything. It's pretty awesome being a burden on society.

I have a car and drive it and I'm still a burden on society. It's pretty easy.

Ooooooh nice. Society is a burden unto itself. I'm seeing a book deal, maybe some posters. Nothing tacky, just words.
Just words.
