I assumed guest1 was being sarcastic and I liked him/her.
I am still doing so. My opinion is still positive.

It sets up some expectations and then it delivers something unexpected. That's a pretty standard formula for humor.Lethal Interjection wrote:I understood that it was referencing a joke. Still not funny, and I still don't get how it is supposed to be funny. It would be like me describing the great free-range coops that this one farmer has and expecting everyone to laugh at my spin on 'why did the chicken cross the road?'. Stupid.Guest1 wrote:It's a reference to another joke - that's what's funny. I was confused because I thought it should be funny on its own.
It's the same thing you have in:
What's worse than finding a worm in your apple?
The Holocaust.
(Which I also find amusing. You may not!)
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

See, I see why you say that yours is the same delivery as the comic, but I disagree. Yours would need some poor joke/observation in a single frame, and then tell the misdirect joke. I'd probably feel better about the comic without the picture. I'd probably feel better about the comic with the caption put above the picture (as then you can basically ignore the picture altogether). I'd definitely feel better about the comic without the throw away threat after the punchline, that ultimately had nothing at all to do with the picture or the joke.Oldrac the Chitinous wrote: It sets up some expectations and then it delivers something unexpected. Zach has been great at the misdirect. This is not a good example.
